About Nguru:
Nguru are flutes carved in the natural shape of a whale tooth. They are played by mouth or by using the nostrils to produce haunting and melodious tones that invoke the voice of Hineraukatauri, the female ancestral spirit of Maori music. They were often played at times of great sorrow, such as tangihanga (funerals).
About NZ Manuka Wood:
Manuka is an important plant in Maori culture and is used in traditional medicine, particularly for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The wood and bark of manuka are also used for various tools and implements. It is native to New Zealand (including the Chatham Islands) and south-east Australia.
Manuka symbolises strength, resilience, and the interconnectedness of nature and culture.
